With your aid on PROTA forum, we’ll try our best to keep you posted. DougieLawson wrote:What's the unique 'selling' point that makes me want to use Prota rather then stock Raspbian? What do you do that I can't do already on my Raspberry Pis?

Raspbian is already good enough for many users but we had more novice users in mind when we first designed Prota. Prota is headless Users access Prota using any standard web browser on any device. No need for monitors, no dedicated apps to install. No command-line interface. Prota is ready-made All Prota apps are nicely packaged and maintained. Users can install Prota apps within a few clicks from our app repository.

We have pre-configured and optimized many apps so that no further configurations are needed by users most of the times. Prota is an automation platform Prota comes with an app which enables user-defined automations (kind of like ifttt.com but on your own Prota).

This is very much like end-user programming without writing code, and we believe it has limitless applications. We're a small team, and we know it's not very polished up yet. Prota is nothing big like Ubuntu or Android for now, either. But we believe that users need a better headless operating system that suits for everyday use, and Prota could satisfy those needs more and more as it evolves.

We love Raspberry Pi and its community, and we think it's a perfect HW platform for Prota by all means. That's why we're giving out free license for Pi users. Suncloud wrote: 2. We have pre-configured and optimized many apps so that no further configurations are needed by users most of the times. That is the absolute opposite of the reason for the Raspberry Pi existing. I don't want pre-made pre-packaged applications, I want to have to get the breadboard wired like a rat's nest, to get the soldering iron hot and the coding pencil sharpened. I want the same for my 15yr old son and all of his mates in school. An application development kit might swing it, but coding raw python, java, C or ruby has to be a better option if we want the next generation (the kids from the 21st Century) to be more than just dumb kids with a smart cell phone.
