Silverduck, First off, welcome to the forum. I hope you stick around longer than it takes just to find out when your gun was made, and to figure out what it may be worth. The age of your revolver has little to nothing to do with it's value. And unless it's a real classic in mint condition knowing the age is of little value as well. Age of S&W handguns is more a curiosity of information than anything else. A revolver 10 years old will have the same value as the same model if it were 25 years old. I can't give you the year of the build, but I'll guess it's worth somewhere in the $400-500 range.

You should go to gunbroker.com and run a search on the model 18. It'll give you a better idea what the markets bearing. There are also huge differences in regional values depending on the demand for a given type of handgun. What a gun is worth here may be as much as a couple hundred dollars different than what it might sell for on the east coast. Good luck, Gearchecker.
Nov 1, 2016 - The info comes from the S&W 'Standard Catalog' by Supica and Nahas. And if you can provide the serial number they usually will tell you! Dec 22, 2014 - S&W M18 Serial number formats Handguns: The Revolver Forum. I've seen model numbers as 'high' as 18-7? Can anyone help here?
